WaitWise Terms of Use
Version 2026-10-10b · Effective date: October 10, 2026
WaitWise is not an emergency service. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Never wait, travel to a farther facility, leave an emergency department or skip care because of anything shown in WaitWise. You alone are responsible for deciding when and where to seek care, and you accept all risk of those decisions.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of WaitWise ("WaitWise", "we", "us"). By tapping "I Agree and Continue" in the app, or by using WaitWise, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use WaitWise.
1. Independent service
WaitWise is an independent service. It is not operated, endorsed or verified by the Government of Ontario, Ontario Health, any hospital, clinic or health-care provider.
2. Not medical advice
WaitWise provides general information only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, triage or treatment, and using it does not create a provider-patient relationship. Features such as "What kind of care do you need?", alternative-care suggestions and pharmacist information help you find types of places, not decide what care you need. Do not delay or avoid seeking care because of information in WaitWise. You are responsible for your own health-care decisions; consult a qualified health professional or call Health811 (811) for advice.
3. Wait times are estimates
Wait times, forecasts, drive times, "best time" suggestions, amenities, parking rates, booking links and facility listings are estimates or third-party information. They may be incomplete, outdated or wrong. Community reports are submitted anonymously by other users and are not verified by hospitals or clinics. Historical averages come from published Ontario Health data and are not live. Actual waits depend on triage and can change at any time. A long or short wait shown in WaitWise does not mean it is safe to leave, stay or choose a particular facility.
4. Emergencies and your responsibility
If you think you or someone else may be having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately, whatever WaitWise shows. Emergency departments see patients by urgency, not arrival order; your wait depends on staff assessment, not on any estimate in WaitWise.
Every decision you make about whether, when and where to seek care, including choosing to wait, delaying, choosing one facility over another, or leaving a facility before being seen, is your own decision. You use WaitWise at your own risk and voluntarily accept all risks arising from those decisions, including the risk of injury, worsening illness or death. WaitWise does not make these decisions for you and is not responsible for them. You confirm this separately in the app, by ticking the emergency acknowledgement before accepting these terms.
5. No reliance
You agree not to rely on WaitWise as the basis for any medical or safety decision. Information in WaitWise is a convenience only. If information in WaitWise differs from what a health professional, hospital staff, 911 or Health811 tells you, follow their instructions.
6. Your contributions
When you submit wait reports, visit progress, ratings or amenity information, you agree it is honest and based on your own experience. You give WaitWise a free, perpetual, worldwide licence to use, combine and publish it in anonymous or aggregated form. Do not submit false reports, personal health information, or information about other people. We may remove contributions or limit access to protect the accuracy of the service.
7. Third-party services and links
WaitWise links to and uses information from third parties, including OpenStreetMap contributors, Environment and Climate Change Canada, TomTom, Health811, Ontario.ca, and clinic booking websites. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices or results. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence.
8. Family sharing and notifications
Visit-sharing links, reminders, alerts and lock screen progress may be delayed, missed or inaccurate. They are not emergency notifications. Anyone with a family-sharing link can view the shared visit progress until you stop sharing.
9. No warranty
WaitWise is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose, except where such warranties cannot be excluded by law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WaitWise, its owners, operators and contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or other losses or damages, including personal injury or health outcomes, arising from your use of or reliance on WaitWise or any information in it, including any decision to wait, delay, travel to, choose or leave any facility, or not to call 911. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid to use WaitWise in the 12 months before the claim, which for the free app is zero. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law, including the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
11. Release and indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you release WaitWise, its owners, operators and contributors from claims arising from your health-care decisions or your use of WaitWise. You agree to indemnify them against claims, losses and costs caused by your misuse of WaitWise, including false or misleading reports, or by your breach of these terms.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information WaitWise collects and how it is used.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we make a material change, the app will ask you to review and accept the new version before you continue. The version and effective date are shown at the top of this page.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
