Should I go to the ER or urgent care?

Call 911 for anything life-threatening, such as chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke or severe bleeding. For urgent problems that are not life-threatening, such as sprains, minor cuts or a fever that won't go down, an urgent care centre or walk-in clinic is often faster. Why can my wait be longer than the posted time?

ERs see the sickest patients first, not in order of arrival, and a posted time is an estimate that can change quickly when ambulances arrive.
